- Book PC[dt. »Buch PC«], Bezeichnung für äußerst kompakte PCs, die ohne Peripheriegeräte verkauft werden. Im Gegensatz zu einem Tower oder einem Desktop-Computer sind Book PCs nicht viel größer als ein dickes Lexikon und wiegen - je nach Ausstattung - nur wenige Kilogramm. Sie enthalten eine verkleinerte Hauptplatine, auf der keine Steckplätze für Erweiterungskarten vorgesehen sind. Darüber hinaus enthalten Book PCs meist ein CD-ROM-Laufwerk, eine Festplatte und ein Diskettenlaufwerk. Grafikkarte, Soundkarte und eine eventuelle Netzwerkkarte sind auf der Hauptplatine integriert. Book PCs werden als semimobile PCs eingesetzt, wenn beispielsweise eine bestimmte Software-Ausstattung benötigt wird, die aus rechtlichen oder technischen Gründen nicht auf einem anderen Rechner eingesetzt werden kann. Der Preis von Book PCs liegt etwa zwischen dem eines PCs und eines Notebooks.
